I think that the accent works in the States, but mine isn’t ‘special’ if you’ve an ear for English accents. It might be true that it’s more special now than it was when I were a young ‘un, but that’s due more to other people talkin’ right common, know wot I mean, like? Wotchin 2 mutch Eastenderers an’ stuff. Thinking talking a bit gangsta makes them tough, right?…yeah, right. right wankers.
‘English reserve’? meh. If asked how’s it going, I will usually reply ‘fine’, ‘not bad’, ‘yeah, pretty good’. Which means that everything is perfectly fine, thanks. Other nationalities may be more enthusuaistic but at the end of the day mean the same thing. If you want to call that ‘reserve’, then fine. But really? it’s just more down to earth, we use less hyperbole, that’s all then your own marketing makes us appear mor sophistamacated and kleverer. We’re not playing it up, it’s all in your minds… ;)
