We met in the bar of the Hilton, where it was clear he was even older than 45. Maybe 55. But he did look a little like Jack Bauer from 24. We drank Veuve. Two bottles. Vintage. $450 worth. And he paid for everything.

He talked about travels to far off places, and he name-dropped like crazy. And I was just happy to lap up the attention of a rich old man who wanted to impress me.

So I pashed him at the end of the night, knowing that I really wasn’t interested. So sue me. It was birthday eve. And we were a long way from takeaway Sizzler.
